Piroska Clease

My name is Piroska Clease. I am a prenatal yoga instructor, a doula and a teacher of English as a foreign language. I lived in London, UK for nine years where I met my husband. We moved back to Hungary in 2004 and Budapest is my home again.

My attention turned towards the miracle and mystery of birth in recent years. I have attended birth-related workshops and conferences both locally and internationally since 2008. I have obtained a Birthlight© diploma and became a prenatal yoga instructor. As a doula, I also accompany women during the perinatal period.

I had my first yoga experience during my late teens which had a deep impact on me. A few years later I had the opportunity to gain a deeper insight into yoga and it became a part of my outlook and life.

Yoga

Connection, unity, relation – the body-mind-soul unity within each person and their working together in harmony, as well as connection between the individual and the universal whole.

Yoga for me is a way of learning about myself and my place in the world. An exciting inner journey, which provides me with an opportunity of being consciously present in my body. As the body is always in the present – it cannot get bogged down in the past, nor can it dash forward into the future, as our thoughts often do – and always shows what there is, it cannot lie.

With the aid of conscious movement and breathing, and focused awareness we can release tension, tiredness and heal injuries which are preserved in the body even though we have long forgotten their cause. As a result we can feel lighter and liberated.

Yoga for pregnancy

The above is all the more true during pregnancy, this most open and sensitive of periods when a pregnant woman can more easily notice the smallest changes in her body. Since the baby is growing inside her body, it is part of her body – they are one. Mother-baby relationship begins here in her centre, in her belly. Prenatal yoga presents the pregnant woman with an opportunity for self-discovery, getting to know her body and her baby inside it, thus deepening the connection between them. It can also help her prepare -both physically and emotionally- for labour, the arrival of the baby and the holistically transforming moments of birth and becoming a family. Through the different exercises and movements she may discover and experience her inner strength and wisdom, learn to call upon them while listening to her inner voice.

‘Through soul searching

and listening more deeply

to the women I was working with,

I finally understood that women

have to prepare for birth

in their heart and soul,

not in their head.

And that giving birth is something a woman does

in her body

not in hear head.’
